Samsung working on a new budget phone called the Galaxy Z2 is not a big secret. But how it will look is still unclear. Some days ago Galaxyclub.nl, a tech website from the Netherlands, posted some rendered pictures of the Z2. The final phone will probably not look exactly like the rendered pictures, but now we have a better idea of how it will look.
There’re two things with this device that are very different, compared with other Galaxy devices. The software and the price. Surprisingly, the operating system is going to be Samsung’s very own Tizen OS and not Android with the TouchWiz UI. All of Samsung’s smartwatches are running Tizen, so if you have one of those you will be comfortable with the software. This is a budget device and it will probably just cost about $70. Newer Galaxy devices are often much more expensive and Samsung is mostly trying to make good premium devices, but not this time.
The biggest design difference compared to the last Galaxy Z1 is that the back is more curved and it will feel nicer to hold this device in your palm. Because the price is as low as about $70, I think the buyer doesn’t think the design is a high priority so Samsung didn’t bet so much on the design.
Because of the price, the home button probably won’t have support for a fingerprint scanner. As you can expect from a cheap phone like this the screen will be small, but you probably wouldn’t think it would be 3.97 inches. The resolution is 800×480 and that low resolution is expected because of the price.
The processor is a 1.5 GHz quad-core, but the model is unknown. The smartphone’s got 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage. The rear camera is 5 megapixels and the selfie camera is VGA. A VGA camera is about 0.3 megapixels, so don’t expect good selfies from this phone.
This is one of the cheapest phones on the market, so if you’re looking for an extremely cheap device this phone may be the best for you. But if the specs of this phone don’t impress you, you could take a look at the Acer Liquid Z410 that cost a little bit more but with better specs!
