Yahoo Inc has successfully seen the realisation of the world of online video streaming with the announcement of its new project, Yahoo View. The announcement of the launch was made yesterday, which is a new TV-watching site for viewers to watch diverse favourite TV shows and other Hulu’s contents such as movies, Korean drama, anime, episodes, for free.
Yahoo View is known to be an addition of Yahoo’s age-old distribution partnership with Hulu.
Hulu’s free content will henceforth be featured on Yahoo View coming this Fall, where users can enjoy watching the last five episodes of ABC, NBC, FOX (eight days after original broadcast). In addition, the fun also extends in watching the full season of anime and Korean movie, backstage clips and interviews, and sitcoms to cherish to your soul.
The most interesting part of Yahoo View is the integration of the service into Tumblr – (Yahoo’s platform for blogging). Viewers, TV fandoms across the globe can easily browse into Tumblr while watching their favourite shows without leaving the screen. Obviously, it’ll be fun to browse photos and GIFs plus watching your movie, all in one, at a go!
According to Yahoo, the new sites also has a “beyond the episode” section which is aimed at visually blocking content that might reveal spoilers.
“As a TV junkie and Tumblr fan myself, I’m personally excited to have one place that brings together the best of free TV and Tumblr fandom,” said Jess Lee, Vice President of Lifestyles Product at Yahoo. “Yahoo View is our first step towards creating a powerful community TV-watching experience, but it’s really only the beginning.”
“Video is an important part of Yahoo’s strategy and we’re committed to delivering the best digital video content to our users. To date, we’ve streamed amazing experiences across sports, finance, and news,” said Phil Lynch, Vice President and Head of Media Partnerships. “This partnership with Hulu is a natural extension of that strategy, bringing the best of TV & entertainment content to our lifestyle vertical.”
However, the enjoyment is in motion as Yahoo View is already operating in the U.S on the desktop, while mobile apps for Android and iOS is set for the future.
