Yesterday Apple released the new MacBook Pro as well as many other new products, today I will cover the new MacBook Pro, but all the other news is also covered on our website.
To start off, the new MacBook Pro is thinner and lighter. The 13″ model is 3.1 mm thinner and it ways 3 pounds (1.4 kg approximately). Not only have the weight and thickness change, but there is a new colour option too. This colour was previously seen on the MacBook that was released earlier this year; Space Gray.
Probably the biggest added feature this year is the new Touch Bar. This Touch Bar replaces all the controls at the top of the keyboard, such as the brightness change and volume control. The Touch Bar can still do all these tasks and more. It can be customized in apps. It is an OLED touch strip. The strip also has a dedicated Touch ID button for paying and security.
The Touch Strip is not the only change to the keyboard, the keyboard now uses the butterfly mechanism technology, previously featured on the thinner MacBook. The Trackpad has also changed, on the 15″ version, the trackpad is twice as large, but on the 13″ version its 46% bigger.
The new display is extremely energy efficient. It uses 30% less battery than before whilst still displaying 25% more colours and being 67% more bright with a 67% better contrast.
The 13″ Mac will have either an i7 or i5 processor and Intel Iris Pro graphics with new and faster RAM, 8GB’s of it. The 15″ device has an ATI Radeon Pro graphics card with 4GB of VRAM. It also has 16GB of normal RAM. The device can also have a 2TB SSD of RAM.
The battery has been enlarged, and apple claims that the device now has 10hrs of screen-on time.
Probably the biggest change it Apple getting rid of all the ports and replacing everything (except the headphone jack) with Thunderbolt USB-C.
The 13″ MacBook Pro with Touch Bar will start at 1799$ and the 15″ version will start at 2399$. Both devices are open for pre-orders at the moment.
