It’s bad news for users and fans of the popular video sharing app Vine. It was announced today that its parent company Twitter is going to kill its app, which means you can’t create any new clips. Videos that have already been posted can still be viewed on the website, although it’s not certain whether you’ll be able to record new footage in the future.
Accessing and downloading Vines will still be allowed. Vine is promising to alert users before they make any changes to the website or app, although uploading new videos won’t be possible.
This essentially means that Twitter is killing Vine. The looing-video network has already seen a number of high-profile creators and executives leave the company as it is struggling to keep up with other social media apps such as Instagram and Snapchat. Twitter might eventually incorporate the app into itself, just like they did with their other app Periscope, but it might not be a priority right now.
Twitter itself is also in trouble, as it’s struggling to find profit in reports of internal battles on whether to sell the company or not. It’s time to say goodbye to Vine, regardless of what happens to it, or at least for now.
