TechCrunch reports that Google’s self-driving car may never be released. Instead of creating their own car brand, Google plans to work with existing brands to create the ultimate car. The company also isn’t looking for complete self-driving technology at this point, just self-driving features. Many people including myself are wondering, what stopped them? According to TechCrunch, it seems that “Alphabet CEO Larry Page and CFO Ruth Porat” are holding back a car that would be entirely self-driven.
Although Google may be out of the autonomous car market for awhile, they are still racing ride sharing companies like Uber for autonomous taxis. TechCrunch tells us that they expect to be fully into a taxi service like this by the end of next year. Uber has already had a whack at this market, currently testing self-driving taxis in Pennsylvania. Would you get into a taxi with no one in it? Let us know in the comments below.
