Way back in 2014, Microsoft stated that they would acquire Nokia for roughly $7.2Billion dollars. Nokia, if you remember, made Windows Mobile powered smartphones. Now, if you fast-forward to today, the company barely makes any smartphones or phones at all. This could all change, however, as a new page on their website is claiming that “We’re just getting started, with new smartphones coming in 2017,” and that “We’re busy working on Nokia smartphones running Android.”
Like with most teasers, there are no other details being released at this time, other than the fact that the rumored phones will be running Android. There have been other rumors pointing out that there may be two phones released, both having metal and water-resistant designs and a very sensitive camera sensor.
It is worth pointing out that the upcoming phones won’t be made the same way that they were used to, as the Nikia brand name was purchased earlier this year by a manufacturer named HMD Global, which will end up making the phones and use the Nokia branding instead.
