In an attempt to ease overcrowding at Tesla Supercharging stations, the company will now charge users who leave their cars idle after the completed charge $0.40 per minute connected.
After the car is done charging, the user will have five minutes to disconnect their car from the charger and move it, or they will be charged with the price mentioned above. However, this will only take effect if the superchargers are crowded. If there are open chargers, the fee won’t take place.
The problem of people leaving their car at the charging station even though the charge has been completed is an issue for people who need to use the Superchargers for a while now, and in a Tesla statement, they said that nobody should do the same thing at a gas station either.
Tesla is stating that the new fee will take effect immediately, and it’s all about “increasing customer happiness and we hope to never make any money from it.” Tesla owners will have to set up an account on Tesla’s website to pay any fees that have been charged.
