We recently just covered Garmin’s new Drive navigation systems, and now they’re back with the Fenix 5 GPS smartwatch collection.
The first model is the Fenix 5 multi-sport, which is a GPS connected smartwatch. It does a lot of stuff that standard fitness-focused smartwatches typically do such recording running, cycling, swimming, hiking, and even golfing sessions. There is GLONASS built in, alongside heart rate tracking, interval modes, V02 Max calculations, and more. The design is a bit roughened out, and comes with a 47-millimeter face, compared to the 51-millimeter face on the previous model.
Also announced is a 42mm model called the Fenix 5S, which is smaller than their other Fenix models. The reason that the design is smaller is so that it can fit women’s wrists, and it’s also targeted towards “female adventurers.” A sapphire version of the 5S is also being made.
Finally, there is the Fenix 5X, which comes with more advanced mapping capabilities. The 5X will come in a 51-millimeter design, as well.
The Fenix 5, 5S and 5x will go on sale during the first quarter of this year. The Fenix 5 and 5x models will cost $600, while the sapphire versions will add an additional $100 to that price.
