As time goes on, more and more technology companies are starting to support the new USB-C standard. Because of that, accessory and hardware companies have to either release new products or refresh older products to support it. The latest comes from LaCie, as they have updated their product like of external hard drives to support USB-C.
The two models that have been updated is the Rugged Thunderbolt and the d2 external hard drives. Starting off with the Rugged Thunderbolt, it still carries the familiar orange rubber shell, and shares the same design as previous models, while also including a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 connector. There are storage configurations of 500GB or 1TB SSD, or a 2TB, 4TB, or 5TB HDD options. The price will start at $249.99, but pricing for the other storage configurations was not given.
The d2 Thunderbolt 3 was also updated, and it also takes on the same design as its predecessors. However, it changes the Thunderbolt 2 connector for the new USB-C Thunderbolt 3 one. Additionally, the two Thunderbolt 2 ports on the back of the device have been swapped out for USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports, as well. This allows users to daisy-chain other Hard Drives to the d2, as well as connecting external displays, and even charge a connected device. It’ll be available in either 6TB, 8Tb, and 10TB configurations, and the price starts at $429.99 for the 6TB model.
Both devices will be out later in the first quarter of 2017. CES 2017 is just getting started, so stay tuned to TechDependent for more coverage. To see all of the news that has happened so far, click here.
