Tesla fans have been waiting for months to hear more information regarding availability for the anticipated Model 3; which is the companies attempt to bring a fully-electric vehicle to the masses. Those questions were answered on Sunday evening when Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to reveal that the first Model 3 customers will receive their new Teslas on the 28th at a handover party. He also revealed that production of the car will be expanded exponentially, with 100 cars completed in August, more than 1,500 by September, and then 200,000 per month by December.

As mentioned above, Elon Musk took to Twitter to explain details of SN1 (Serial Number 1)

He then went on to explain and confirm the production ramp-up for the Model 3 in several other tweets

The company is expected to dramatically increase Model 3 production in 2018, with about 500,000 units being produced annually. As it stands, the Model 3 has over 400,000 pre-orders, so this would be good news for the company as their fanbase is still growing today.

The Model 3 was announced over a year ago, and is the companies attempt to get an affordable electric car to everyday people, as it will be priced around $35,000; which is way cheaper when compared to the Model S and X, as those can sticker at $80,000 for base models, and can go all the way up to $200,000. At the cars announcement, Musk was “fairly confident” that first deliveries will begin by the end of 2017, and that “you will not be able to buy a better car for $35,000, even with no options.”

Elon Musk revealed at a shareholder meeting last month that first Model 3 customers would be limited in their ability to customize their cars – with just the option to choose the color and wheel type. “I should say that we’ve kept the initial configurations of the Model 3 very simple … A big mistake we made with the X, which is primarily my responsibility – there was way too much complexity right at the beginning. That was very foolish.”
