While most companies used VR to enhance the entertainment experience, Google took a whole other approach to it by trying to apply this technology for training purposes. Using VR, Google aims to give people some kind of “real-life” training. The company wants to replace dull and boring training videos with VR.
Google tested their idea through a coffee brewing experiment where one group watched a training video and the other group used VR training. Even though both groups did not make an impressive cuppa, the group that trained through VR was quicker and made fewer mistakes. While only one experiment was made, this idea seems promising since it is the closest thing to reality. The system also needs a lot of improvement in terms of using equipment that will simulate feel so that more and more complex training can be done through VR and that the system is able to reproduce real life dangers and threats so that the trainees can be taught to react correctly.
