After the release of the gorgeous nearly-bezel less Mi Mix, Xiaomi is here to impress its crowd once again with the Mi Mix 2. At Xiaomi, they seriously take the philosophy of less is more to a whole new level. While the company was slightly obscured by manufacturers like Samsung, the Mi Mix definitely put Xiaomi under the limelight. Companies are now in the pursuit of eliminating the bezel. Established players like Samsung are reaching that goal as well as newcomers like Essential.
Now about the phone, Xiaomi stated that they will be “releasing the Mi Mix 2 in two versions: a regular one and a Special Edition with extra memory and a more luxurious design.”
Having a similar design language as its predecessor, the Mi Mix 2 sports a massive 5.99-inch 1080 x 2160 pixels (~403 ppi pixel density) screen. It has also been said that the screen-to-body ratio is about 80.8%. The device will run on a Snapdragon 835 processor with a 3,400 mAh battery pumping juice through the device. With 6 GB of RAM, the Mi Mix 2 will support Bluetooth 5.0 and a fingerprint scanner at the back of the device. Moving fingerprint scanners to the back of devices has been an ongoing trend that we have seen many smartphone manufacturers do this year. Samsung and Asus for example with the Galaxy S8 and Zenfone 3. Not everyone is a fan of this new feature, but this is a sacrifice that needs to be made to achieve an almost bezel-less phone.
With its 12 MP sensor and 5-piece f/2.0 aperture lens, the camera will be able to record in 4K at 30fps and 720p at 120fps. A special edition of the device with 18k gold coating will also be released.
The Mi Mix 2 seems like an appropriate successor for the original Mi Mix however only time and use of the device on a daily basis can tell if it actually is. Until then stay tuned for more.
