It’s now confirmed that Disney will acquire a large part of Fox. They will get everything except Fox News cable channel, broadcast networks, and Fox Sports, for the high price tag of $52.4 billion. The parts they didn’t buy will likely be independent. This means that Disney will get access to the Fox movie and TV studios, including famous films like X-Men, Avatar, The Simpsons and more. Areas of the UK’s Sky might also get acquired by Fox, which means that Disney will get them as well.
As mentioned recently, Fox has distributed many famous movies although that was not the main point of this acquisition. Disney bought Fox mainly to get a larger film library. This can be very handy since they are planning on launching their own streaming business sometime in 2019. That’s also the reason why Disney’s movies won’t be shown on Netflix anymore.
The only thing that can stop this deal from happening is the regulators. AT&T is currently trying to buy Time Warner and the acquisition is getting thoroughly examined by regulators. This will probably happen to Disney’s and Fox’s deal as well, but the question is if it will proceed or not. What do you think about this deal? Let us know in the comment section!
