Smartphones nowadays are usually pretty slippery because the best looking materials, such as glass and metal don’t offer much grip for the user’s hand. OnePlus used a material called Sandstone for the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2 which is grippy, smooth, and good-looking according to many. A video on OnePlus’ YouTube channel teases that the company will bring back the Sandstone material next year.
In the video, called “What’s in the Box?”, several people put their hands in a box with an unknown product inside and then try to describe what they can feel. They mentioned that it felt “smooth,” “quite grippy,” like an “anti-slippery metal,” and “like a stone”. Some people even said that the texture was similar to “the original one” (probably the OnePlus One) and “the OnePlus One Sandstone”.
OnePlus recently launched the Star Wars version of the 5T in some regions, and it actually had the Sandstone material. This video really makes us think that the new product OnePlus was teasing is a Sandstone version of the 5T, although it wasn’t confirmed in the video. It could also be something else, like a tablet or a pair of headphones, but it’s most likely a phone.
We will be able to “unbox the mystery” in January 2018, so we’ll need to wait before we find out what OnePlus was hiding in that box. What do you think it is?
