As you probably already are aware of, a team from HTC is behind the manufacturing of the original Google Pixel and Pixel XL. It’s actually now confirmed that Google acquired a part of HTC, including the Pixel team, for 1.1 billion dollars. HTC assured their fans that they’ll keep producing HTC branded phones, as well as AR, AI, and IoT products.
Google published a blog post earlier today where Rick Osterloh, hardware SVP at the company, announced that: “Today, we start digging in with our new teammates, guided by the mission to create radically helpful experiences for people around the world, by combining the best of Google’s AI, software, and hardware.” This acquisition also makes Taipei (the capital of Taiwan) Google’s largest engineering site in the Asia-Pacific area, according to Osterloh.
This is Google’s third year in the hardware business, but they promise that it’s just the beginning. What do you think of Google buying parts of HTC? Let us know in the comments below!
