Smart home devices have been the trend for the past couple years of CES, or the Consumer Electronics Show, and from the looks of it, there seems to be nothing stopping that trend. A company by the name of Hive is entering the crowd with a device called the View, which is a smart home indoor security camera. Even though the market is filled with devices like this already, the View comes with some unique features that separate it from the crowd. One of the highlight features is called “grab and go,” which means that the device is able to disconnect from its base and record in another part of the house for an extended amount of time.

As expected, the View also shares the same features that are in other indoor cameras, such as HD live streaming, in which the company will keep up to 24 hours of footage in the cloud. However, if you want more footage to be saved, you have to upgrade to the company’s paid membership, which costs $5.99 per month, or $6.99 a month in Canada. The paid membership also comes with a maximum of 30 days worth of footage. As with other indoor cameras, the View does not continuously record video, it instead only records when it detects movement.

The camera recording everything has a wide angle field of view, measuring in at 130 degrees. The camera does rotate around on the base of the Hive, so you can mount it in almost any situation just fine.

The Hive View will be available starting today from its website, where it will cost $199 in the US. Interestingly, Hive is offering a payment plan option for the View, where it will cost you $8.33 per month for 24 months. As the image depicts, the View will be available in two color schemes: Black and Brushed Copper or White and Champagne Gold. Hive will be showcasing this device, as well as other smart home products at CES 2018 in Las Vegas.
